SURVIVING COVID-19
Member Joshua Leimann shares his experiences with COVID-19
By now, most of us know someone who has been affected by COVID-19, whether it be family, friends or colleagues. In fact, we are now receiving applications to CSEA’s Assistance Fund from members who have been impacted. Some have family members who have contracted the virus and have had to step up and pay the high cost of hospital bills and some have been exposed themselves and had to quarantine in hotels separate from their family and friends. The grim reality is stories like these will continue and how we choose to react during these situations will determine whether cases increase, or hopefully decline, in the future.
Right now, COVID-19 is the most widespread and dangerous it’s ever been. The tragic fact is more Americans are dying each day from COVID-19 than were killed at Pearl Harbor or on 9/11.
Even though the importance of staying safe is emphasized each day by health and county officials, it unfortunately isn’t resonating with everyone. This was the case for Joshua Leimann, warehouse worker from Upland Chapter 163, who readily admits he had not been wearing a mask or social distancing. Everything changed for him, though, when he contracted the coronavirus.
This video shares Joshua’s firsthand account of having the virus and the lessons he learned about the importance of taking the virus seriously. After all, not everyone will be as lucky as Joshua and, even still, he has lingering health issues. We hope that by sharing his experience, it will prevent you, our fellow brothers and sisters, from the risk of COVID-19.
"We all want to be together, but if we don't listen to the rules now, we may not be togther after the fact."
