by Angelica Cabral
CSEA, along with Union Plus (AFL-CIO), offers yearly scholarships to members and their dependents. This past year, 56 CSEA member dependents were awarded CSEA scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Additionally, CSEA families received 13 AFL-CIO Union Plus Scholarships.
CSEA scholarships for member dependents
CSEA awards $1,000 scholarships to the dependents of its members. There are scholarships available for graduating high school seniors, currently enrolled community college and four year university attendees, and those at vocational schools. Over the past 50 years, CSEA has awarded more than a million dollars to the dependents of CSEA members who are working on their post secondary education.
Scholarships for CSEA member dependents are awarded based on criteria in several categories, including academic achievement, financial need, and exceptional circumstances.
For 2020, CSEA will offer a total of 53 member dependent scholarships in three different categories:
• First Year Scholarships (43 awarded) • Community College Scholarship (5 awarded) • College, University, Trade or Vocational School Scholarship (5 awarded)
Application forms and detailed information will be available in mid-November and are due March 1.
