CSEA 2025 Legislative Priorities
The 2025 legislative session is in full swing in Sacramento with committee hearings well underway as state lawmakers work to analyze, debate, and vote on over 2,350 bills. Five of those bills are proposals sponsored by CSEA and our labor partners.
CSEA’s sponsored bills this year would expand access to a critical summer assistance program, standardize the information classified employees receive about their paychecks, and strengthen appeal rights in disciplinary proceedings.
Sponsoring legislation also empowers CSEA to deepen our relationships with lawmakers from across California. This year, CSEA is collaborating with longtime labor champion Senator Dave Cortese (D-San Jose), as well as Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen (D-Elk Grove), Assemblymember Avelino Valencia (D-Anaheim), Assembly Majority Leader Cecila Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), and Assembly Education Committee Chair Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance).
This April, CSEA Legislative Committee and PACE Committee members will travel to Sacramento to meet with key lawmakers and advocate for our sponsored bills. Our strength during these meetings comes from our ability to testify to the direct impact of these laws on the lives of classified school employees, our students, and the communities we serve.
"We're bringing the lived experiences of our members to the forefront,” said Legislative Committee Chair Steve Lopez. “When we speak, lawmakers listen. Our presence in Sacramento will be a testament to our political power and our unwavering commitment to securing positive change.” Details of the legislative proposals can be found here: 2025 Priority Bills.
