President's message
CSEA siblings,
At CSEA, we know that we have each other’s backs.
It’s one of the hallmarks of our organization. We exist to support one another and part of supporting one another is not just on the job and in contract negotiations.
It’s how we treat each other, the words we choose, and the actions we take.
CSEA’s Core Values are a reminder of these things and make them a concrete and actionable part of our union. They were created in your image: a list of the best qualities in each of us put down on paper to remind us of what we’re capable of.
Empowerment, Inclusivity, Respect, Transparency, and Innovation are qualities embodied by each of us, both individually and as members of our union family.
We are diverse and great in numbers, and yet we each represent these qualities and the mission to strive for them each day.
Since the Board of Directors and I first met to develop these Core Values last October, they’ve become more and more engrained throughout our union.
In fact, they are a central element of this year’s Annual Conference theme, Together We Thrive, and I’m excited for you to see all the ways they will be incorporated into our week in San Jose this summer.
They will also be physically enshrined on the wall of the newly renovated Board Room and in the lobby at CSEA Headquarters, and you will continue to see examples of them in action every day.
Just take the story on Lynwood Chapter 116 in this issue of Focus.
Lynwood was tasked with hosting the Board and I for our away meeting in March but in the midst of their planning, their chapter president had to step away to focus on her health. The rest of the chapter stepped up in her stead to lead the planning she’d begun and to support her as their friend.
Stories like that of the dedicated members of Lynwood 116 happen every day at CSEA and that’s what makes our union so unique.
There is truly no organization like CSEA and it’s you, representing our Core Values of Empowerment, Inclusivity, Respect, Transparency and Innovation, that make it what it is.
In Solidarity,
Adam Weinberger, Association President
