Proposition 15

Ballot initiative will restore balance, make big corporations pay their fair share

With the coronavirus affecting every aspect of daily life, it has become clear who are the key players we need to call on most during our greatest hour of need. These essential workers are not CEOs, wealthy property owners or large corporations. They are first responders, healthcare workers, those who help our community members most in need, and members like yourselves who keep our schools running and our students learning. These services are funded by taxes paid by all of us because we know that in a healthy society we help each other. It’s the same reason we are a union. But whereas in CSEA we all pay our fair share, right now California families are paying more than their fair share while huge corporations pay much less.

Why Vote YES on Prop 15?

Will increase funding for schools, won’t raise taxes

Prop 15, known as Schools & Communities First, will help eliminate this inequality and provide the reliable and fair funding source our students deserve, without raising taxes for hard-working Californians like our members or for small businesses.

Protecting small businesses, closing loopholes for large corporations

Opponents of Prop 15 claim it will raise taxes for California families and small businesses and be all but a death blow to our economy.

“YES” vote will support stable education funding

“I am asking you to support Proposition 15 this November because it will provide the reliable and fair funding source our students deserve, without raising taxes for hard-working Californians like you or for small businesses,” said Association President Ben Valdepeña. “Prop 15 will restore balance and protect homeowners and renters by making corporations pay their fair share for our schools, healthcare and essential services.” You are a critical part of our educational infrastructure, yet funding for public schools and community services are unstable and insufficient. Right now, California schools rank 39th in per-pupil spending and our schools are facing budget cuts and staff layoffs. We have the opportunity to change this, which is why Prop 15 is needed now more than ever. This election is critical, especially as we face uncertain times in so many ways right now. Within the current climate of COVID-19 and beyond, Prop 15 will help ensure we have a stronger public education system than we had before the coronavirus pandemic. By voting “YES” on Prop 15 this November, we can give our students, their families and our dedicated school employees the stability they deserve. If you haven’t already, please be sure to register to vote and get involved by volunteering to make calls for the candidates and issues you support, like Prop 15.
