Scholarships & Grants


CSEA awards $135,000 in grants and scholarships to members and their dependents each year. There are a variety of programs to consider:

  • Dependent Scholarship $1,000 – Applications are available mid-November and are due March 1.
  • Member Career Grant $1,000 – Applications are available in June and are due October 31.
  • Member Reimbursement Subsidy up to $250 – Applications are accepted year-round.
  • Union Plus Scholarship $500 to $4,000 – Applications are available in June and are due January 31.
  • Member Student Loan Reducer Program $500 - Applications available in September and are due February 15.

There are several categories of award including those based on financial need or academic achievement. Applications are evaluated by the CSEA State Scholarship Committee.

Applications are available in mid-November and are due March 1.

Member Career Grant - $1,000


This grant is awarded to members going to school part- or full-time either at the time of the application or planning to enroll in the term immediately following the grant award. Applications are evaluated by the CSEA State Scholarship Committee based on a combination of need, goals and objectives, citizenship, and CSEA activities.

Applications are available in June and are due October 31.

Member Reimbursement Subsidy - Up to $250


This subsidy is available to members seeking funds to help pay for various opportunities that link them to the union, students, and/or the community. Examples of the types of programs considered include but are not limited to attendance at CSEA’s Paraeducator Conference, CSEA’s Maintenance and Operations Academy, completion of the citizenship process, obtaining a high school diploma or GED, or other college or vocational courses. Applicants may only receive the subsidy every other year. Members receiving assistance from their employer or chapter shall not be eligible for this program. Subsidy grants are awarded based on the budget approved annually with half the monies approved for June 1 through November 30 and the other half for December 1 through May 31. Money not awarded in the first part of the year is carried over to the second part of the year.

Applications are accepted year-round. The deadline for application submission is no more than 60 calendar days prior to the event/class and no more than 15 days after the event/class.

Union Plus Scholarship - $500 to $4,000


This scholarship is for members or their dependents. The applicant must be accepted into a U.S. accredited college, university, community college, technical or trade school at the time the award is issued. Awards must be used for the 2021-2022 school year. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply.

Applications are available in June and are due January 31, 2021.

Member Student Loan Reducer Program - $500


CSEA can assist in paying down student loan debt for members with at least $10,000 debt for their own education. Applications are evaluated based on a combination of need, CSEA activities, and the essay submitted with the application. Thanks to SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union for their generous donation in making this program possible.

Applications available in September and are due February 15.
