CSEA scholarships for CSEA member dependents
As a CSEA member, your dependents can receive help paying for school with $1,000 scholarships from CSEA. Scholarships for CSEA member dependents are awarded in several categories, with awards based primarily on academic achievement, awards based primarily on financial need, and awards based solely on academic achievement and citizenship, including leadership, character, and service. The committee also takes into consideration exceptional circumstances for some awards. There are 43 graduating high school senior, 5 community college and 5 four-year college, university or trade/vocational school scholarships.

Union Plus Scholarship Program
Since 1991, Union Plus has awarded over $4 million to more than 3,000 union members, spouses, and dependents. Awards ranging from $500 to $4,000 are given to students attending a two-year college, four-year college, graduate school, or recognized technical or trade school. The program awards scholarships based on academic excellence, personal character, financial need and dedication to the values of our labor unions. The process is extremely competitive and, this past year, CSEA had 13 out of 215 winners nationwide, with one student receiving $3,000 to continue his education.
Applications are due January 31, 2021.
“Union scholarships make it possible for students like me to focus on education without worrying about financial means. Through this blessing, I will be able to afford my semester’s tuition and minimize my debt.”
- Danyelle Burke North, dependent of Lisa Burke, Los Alamitos Chapter 324
Additional Education and Grant Opportunities
In addition to the Dependent and Union Plus Scholarships, CSEA offers additional education and grant programs, including our popular Free College Program for members and their family members, as well as additional grant programs.
“What is so wonderful about these scholarships is that we can assist a member with their child’s education and at the same time we have programs to assist our members, because it’s not just for kids!” said CSEA Scholarship Committee Chair Olivia Vaughn.
CSEA Member Reimbursement Subsidies
CSEA offers up to $250 subsidies to financially assist members with opportunities that connect them to the union, the community, and/or to students. Examples of the types of programs considered include, but are not limited to, attendance at CSEA’s Paraeducator Conference, CSEA’s Maintenance and Operations Academy, completion of the citizenship process and obtaining a high school diploma or GED.
Applications are accepted year-round.
