Governor Newsom’s budget proposal continues to prioritize education funding

Governor Gavin Newsom renewed his commitment to funding TK-12 schools and community colleges in his 2023-24 budget proposal. Building on last year’s extraordinary $22,893 per-pupil funding, the proposed budget would see the highest per-pupil funding in the state’s history at $23,723.

Palkki begins four-year CalPERS term

With over 11,000 signatures collected last summer, Kevin Palkki of San Bernardino CCD Chapter 291 secured one of two active school member seats on the CalPERS Board of Administration.

Galvanized by the support of CSEA retirees and members in collecting immensely more than the 250 signatures needed to get Palkki nominated, the long-time CSEA activist is now serving as a fierce advocate for classified workers after ultimately running unopposed.
