97th Annual Conference preview

97th Annual Conference Preview

By David Ngô

CSEA’s biggest event of the year takes place this month at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. From July 23–28, 2023, delegates from chapters across California will convene to conduct the business of the union, set the course of the Association, and celebrate 97 years of CSEA.

“I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and new friends and breaking bread with our brothers and sisters from up north and down south that we don't get to see a lot,” said Tammy Shafer-Noriega of Classic Connections Council 5019, who also serves as regional representative for Region 1.

"When you volunteer at a higher state level, conference is an amazing time. These are lifelong friends that you make when you get in this Association.”

This year’s conference features exciting amenities, including the return of in-person Education Days, a free live stream open to all members, keynote speakers, and opportunities to connect with members all under one roof.

“The Conference Committee is so excited to be at the Grand Sierra Resort with so much space at our disposal,” said Ken Anderson of Vallejo Chapter 199. He represents Area B on the Conference Committee and will serve as this conference’s sergeant at arms. “We will be occupying 80 percent of the hotel, so we will be pretty close to having our own exclusive hotel and convention center all under one roof.”

Delegates are encouraged to download the CSEA mobile app in advance to familiarize themselves with the online Conference Hub. Just like last year, the Conference Hub offers delegates access to key documents, voting information, the agenda, and additional important conference content.
