2025 Lobby Day Recap

Association President Adam Weinberger, Legislative Committee Chair Steve Lopez, and PACE Committee Chair John Sullivan meet with Assembly Education Committee Chair Al Muratsuchi.
This April, 23 members of the Legislative and PACE Committees met in Sacramento for CSEA’s annual Lobby Day. There, committee members joined Association President Adam Weinberger in advocating for CSEA’s latest legislative and budget priorities. Members split into six teams to take 39 scheduled meetings with Members of Legislature or their staff.
“It was wonderful to see our dedicated committee members working the halls of the Legislature at Lobby Day in Sacramento,” said Association President Weinberger. “I’m so proud of how the committees pulled together to advance CSEA’s legislative agenda and share their personal stories about the urgent need for these bills.”

In addition to advocating for CSEA’s five sponsored bills, committee members had the opportunity to attend a hearing at the State Capitol on Senate Bill (SB) 98, a bill by Senator Sasha Renée Pérez that would require schools to notify all school staff and students’ guardians when immigration enforcement is present on a school site. PACE and Legislative Committee members spoke in support of the bill at its Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
“I’m proud that CSEA has taken such a strong stance in support of legislation that will protect our most vulnerable students and neighbors,” said Legislative Committee Chair Steve Lopez. “Legislators need to hear directly from us that classified school employees stand with our undocumented students—no one should be afraid to go to school.”

By the end of two days of lobbying, committee members returned home with many positive responses, new connections, and tired feet. “It was heartening to hear so many legislators and staff commit to supporting our priority bills,” said PACE Committee Chair John Sullivan. “While the federal administration attacks public education, legislators in California affirmed to us their commitment to classified school employees and our students.”
